Sunday night Francis delivered our first Fron-Shu meal. It was delicious!
Chicken marinated in yogurt, garlic and a medley of spices, then baked to a sticky, savoury goodness. This was accompanied by flatbread made of cornmeal and flour, and greens with garlic. Very tasty, and good leftover!
I’ve just drawn my ingredients for Saturday’s meal:
yogurt
eggs
game meat
cilantro
rice
peanut butter
Oh dear.
*** UPDATE ***
We had Asian-inspired devilled eggs as an appetizer (chili, soy sauce, garlic, cilantro leaf garnish), vension curry with yogurt, and cilantro rice.
The rice turned out delicious, but the venison was pretty dry. If it hadn’t been so late when I started cooking, I would have marinated it in the yogurt for a good couple hours…
Anyway, it was edible and mostly tasty. And it’s Francis’s turn next!

You can eliminate one ingredient, right?
Yep. I don’t know whether to go Asian and leave the peanut butter in (why do we keep drawing peanut butter?!) or what.
By all means go Asian! Hard-boiled eggs in it. Difficult–pb, or yogurt?
Can you count guinea pig as game meat?
Guinea pigs only count if they are set free in the wild and hunted but there is the risk of owls or foxes steeling your dinner.
[...] THE CHALLENGE PROCEEDS! [...]
We’re really enjoying “watching” the Fron-Shu challenge! I think cooking with restrictions really helps you become a better cook by forcing you out of your comfort zone and traditional flavor patterns. I think it’s really cool that you and Frances have made a game of it together.
Brian and I ended up eating a much greater variety of foods last summer when we had new strange veggies delivered every week via our CSA. This year, with both the CSA and the migraine diet in effect, I am practically starting from scratch as far as dinner plans go! Yipes!
Here’s a Fron-Shu side-game for you: what do you use to dress a salad without using vinegars, citrus, pickled ingredients, or soy?
Yeah, that diet sounds really tough, love!
For salad dressings…
- Garlic, toasted sesame oil, and peanut butter?
- Olive oil, brewer’s yeast, cayenne?
- Tahini, garlic, and…?
What a fun idea. It’s going to have me giggling all day, picturing the Ritual of the Fron-Shu Challenge!!!!11! Just when I think I couldn’t like you any more…
